1. Gather 3-6 players, ages 12 and up.
2. Place the Entrance Hall/Foyer/Grand Staircase tile in the center of the table.
3. Shuffle the room tiles and place them face down in a draw pile.
4. Shuffle the event, item, omen, and haunt cards and place them face down in their respective draw piles.
5. Each player chooses a character and places their figure on the Entrance Hall tile.

4.2 Haunt Phase

The Haunt begins when a player draws an Omen card and fails a Haunt Roll. The specific Haunt scenario is determined by the room the Omen was drawn in and the Omen card itself. The traitor and the remaining explorers (heroes) will each receive a separate Haunt Book (Traitor's Tome and Secrets of Survival) detailing their unique objectives and rules for winning.
